When you buy a house there is a process you go through to make it your own. Re-painting the walls, hanging up art and window dressings, maybe even renovating the bathroom, are all ways we make houses in to homes. For me it’s getting my shovel into the garden. I think Cynthia and Chris would agree. Located in an older neighborhood and previously owned by a retiree, the Smiths wanted to update the look of their home to reflect the youthful enthusiasm of their young family. We removed a misplaced island bed, and extended the garden bed to wrap around the beautiful mature maple. Groupings of Hostas, Bergina, Hydrangea and various other shade plants provide low maintenance colour and texture throughout the seasons. We even managed the difficult feat of transplanting the full-grown Chinese Dogwood to its new home at the corner of the house. All in all, this project is the perfect example of how a little gardening can make an old house new again.
